SAKURA
with World-Class Technology
SAKURA, established in 1921 as [Nihon Crayon Trading company], is
a manufacturer of art supplies and writing instruments with world-class
ink development technology. In 1925, SAKURA successfully developed
the world's first art materials with convenient use of crayons and
the beautiful color of pastel. Combined, they became the oil pastels known
as 'Craypas'. SAKURA has registered trademarks and patents with this and
has started to expand to the global market.
Later, the company was renamed to [SAKURA CRAYPAS].
The company has been working on developing paints, colored pencils,
oil-based markers, and felt-tip pens. The company developed the plastic
pencil ‘Coupy pencil’ in 1973 and the world's first gel pigment ink in 1982.
The pen that adopts this ink is 'Pigma Micron' which is loved in Korea as
well. In 1984, SAKURA has developed a water-based gel ink and released
the ‘Gelly Roll’ series to the world.
SAKURA has also developed a solid marker that is effective in the industrial
field, sterilizing indicator inks that are essential for the medical field such as
hospitals, and supplies that are essential not only to general consumers but
also to various fields of industry.
Education and Culture
SAKURA holds as its corporate mission a commitment to develop
and contribute to education and culture. It is not just an idea.
It is brought into fruition through active work in activities, sponsorship of
research for art education and including opening the Osaka head office
as [SAKURA art museum] to visitors for free.
To become a global company, SAKURA is actively promoting art education
and social contribution activities not only in Japan but also throughout Asia
and the USA. In Korea, it holds the PIGMA Illustration competition every year
with ZIMMOAH to spread the culture of drawing and illustration.
It focuses on introducing the value of art education through various drawing
and calligraphy workshops.
SAKURA's ink development technology, which can actualize over 700 colors
is the best in the world. With such technology, the company will lead in art
